This Place in Powai serves Delicious Alcohol Infused Ice Creams, but…

…But they ran out of it on the day I visited their Ice Cream Parlour! What a disappointment! The reason being that they had sold out for the day, not just one but all their alcohol flavored Ice-Creams. Now I would have not been as disappointed had I dropped by this place late in the night when they were closing for the day, but if you tell your customer who has traveled on a rainy day, through all that annoying Mumbai traffic that you have sold out in just 5 minutes after opening, you are definitely doing something wrong. Your decision of “pre-selling” to a customer before you open and then leaving all the customers that visit your shop that day disappointed will surely hit you in the long run.

However, disappointments aside, they still have some interesting Non-alcoholic creations. The quality of ice cream is good but the flavors didn’t taste extraordinary. They were decent but definitely not worth the price at which its sold. But the turning point comes when they add their amazing toppings to it that makes all the difference in the world. It not only adds to the flavor but also makes it look beautiful and gives it that “Premium” feel.

IMG_3657

S’more – Ice Cream infused with Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and topped off with delicious Marshmallow Fluff that is then toasted in front of you. What a Treat! Not saving the best for last, their S’more Ice cream is the best non alcoholic flavor. The soft and sticky marshmallow fluff elevates the mild flavor of the actual ice cream to a whole new level.

IMG_3617

Brownie Fudge – Vanilla flavored and Brownie infused ice cream, topped off with soft and chewy homemade brownie pieces. The texture of the brownie topping is what makes this ice cream better than all the brownie “flavored” ice creams that I have tried… because their creation contains an actual brownie!

IMG_3619

Cookies ‘n’ Cream – Oreo and Cream infused Ice cream, topped off with more oreos and cream. Not my favorite of the lot, being a Oreo fan, I would expect anything that says “oreo flavored” to taste like oreos like McDonald’s Oreo McFlurry . Their ice cream sadly didn’t. However its still a good tasting creation.

IMG_3623

Berry Blast – Ice cream infused with a mix of berries and topped off with Berry Mousse and Strawberry Corn flakes, Genius! That sprinkle of corn flakes gives it a nice crunch.

IMG_3630

Red Velvet Cheesecake – Cream Cheese flavored Ice Cream with Red Velvet Crumble and a generous amount of Cream Cheese Frosting. Initially I was a bit let down when I tastes only the ice cream, but with the addition of the toppings this was one of the best I had that day! Worth a try!

IMG_3631

Cheese Platter – Camembert and Brie infused Ice cream topped with Parmesan Crackers and Grape Gel. This was one of the few ice creams from their list which I liked as it is. The ice cream has a nice flavor of cheese that is quite unique.

IMG_3633

Nutty Nutella – 100% pure Nutella Ice cream topped off with more Nutella and Gold Coated Hazelnuts, well at-least that’s what the menu card read! Just like the Oreo Ice cream, I expect Nutella flavored Ice creams to at-least resemble the popular Nutella Flavor… which it didn’t. Still a decent chocolate flavored ice cream.

IMG_3638

Dark Chocolate Galore – Ice cream infused with Whitaker’s 75% Pure Dark Chocolate topped off with Chantilly Chocolate Mouse and Homemade Dark Chocolate. Another ice cream that tasted good by itself, I loved the strong flavor of the dark chocolate. Even the home-made dark chocolate on the top was delicious, sadly I don’t know who ate my Chantilly Chocolate Mousse Topping?

IMG_3640

Peanut Butter – Peanut Butter Ice cream topped off with Gold Dusted Liquid Chocolate. The ice cream had a nice and distinguishable flavor of peanut butter, even the “liquid” chocolate topping had a rich taste. But unlike the other creations, here I didn’t enjoy the topping much, mainly because the so-called liquid chocolate was very much solid and it was difficult to break through it with a plastic ice cream spoon without making a mess. Still great flavor and worth a try if u like peanut butter.

IMG_3643

Salted Caramel – Caramel and Sea Salt infused Ice cream topped with Popcorn and Caramel Sauce. I am a big fan of Salted Caramel and I was excited to try out Ice cream with pop corn in it. It is definitely an innovative idea and it does add to the flavor. However I wish the ice cream had a stronger flavor.

IMG_3645

Cappuccino – Cappuccino infused Ice cream topped with Chantilly Creme, Biscuit Crumble and Silvered Pistachio Nuts. That generous sprinkle of Pistachio nuts does make this ice cream look very “premium.” The flavor was decent, mild and comforting like a cup of cappuccino, though I would have preferred an “Espresso” ice cream over a cappuccino… if you know what I mean!

IMG_3653

Overall I had a nice time and an insane amount of ice cream for one day! I was disappointed in the start, but Ice cream whether it contains alcohol or not it good enough to cheer you up. To make things better, in the end I got to taste a small spoon of their Alcohol flavors and they were a class apart from the ones I tried. Their Old Monk Ice cream was clearly the best of the lot. This place is worth a try and I would love to visit again to have a whole scoop if not a Tub of their Old Monk Ice cream… as long as its not sold out. Remember you may have the best Ice Cream in the world but that is worth nothing if its not available!

Authentic Indian Food on the go?

Ever craved for Indian food like Butter Chicken but didn’t have the time to sit down and enjoy it, no problem, Morselo has a solution! With their newly launched ‘Naan Sub’ you can  enjoy delicious Indian dishes while on the move.

Located in the ‘once upon a time popular’ Galleria in Powai, Mosrelo is a tiny eatery that aims to tackle the problem of authentic Indian food on the go. Hence they combined an open sub with popular Indian dishes like Butter Chicken, Paneer Korma, Chicken Kheema and many more. We tried out their Fort Kochi Chicken Pepper Fry, Hazratganjwala Dum Ka Murg and everyone’s favorite GT Road Da Butter Chicken. All of them are loaded with shredded Chicken, perfect ratio of bread to toppings. Our favorite was the Hazratganjwala Dum Ka Murg, worth trying out!

They also serve take away meals or as they like to call it, ‘Rice Packs,’ which is your choice of gravy like Chole, Shahi Paneer, Madras Chicken, etc. served with Pulav Rice and Dilli ki Ram Ladoo. We tried out the London Famous Madras Chicken Gravy which was quite nice and enough to fill you up. We also ordered a side dish Khatte Masaledar Chicken Fingers, which we loved, spicy, tangy and delicious!

If you have been reading closely, you may have noticed that each dish has a location associated with it, that’s because Morselo wants people to know where each of their dishes originated from, their Rice Packs come with a short story about each dish.

IMG_3082

We even tried out their drinks which were decent, I liked the water based drinks of Lemon Twist and Orange Chili Tamgo, however the Cold Coffee and Hazelnut Frappe could have been better. I did like their ChocoChip Milkshake that comes loaded with chocolate chips.

Usually I feel that the Chocolate Brownie is the most overused and abused dish in majority of restaurants, they serve dry, boring brownies, sometimes with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream which is equally bad. Hence I was quite hesitant when the owner recommended their Brownies for dessert but to my surprise, it was amazing. We tried out the Salted Caramel Brownie which was a perfect blend of taste and texture! Strongly recommended! Another dessert we tried out was their Pink Ladoo which was equally good.

IMG_3092

Overall, I feel Morselo is a good place to order food from or for takeaways, however when it comes to dining here, I find the ambiance quite average and I’m not a big fan of eating out of plastic containers with plastic cutlery when at a restaurant. However on the positive side, the food is hot, you get to speak to their cheerful owner and listen to his interesting stories about the dishes and last but not least, they do serve a cup of tea on the house each time they prepare a batch!

Turban Tales, Powai

Turban Tales is a newly opened restaurant in Powai that serves North Indian food along with Desi Styled Cocktails and Patiala Sized Iced Teas and Lassi. If that didn’t capture your attention, all of their dishes are pocket friendly and a bill for two should fit well below 1000 rupees.

IMG_3869

The ambiance here is amazing and even though it’s an open rooftop restaurant, it was quite cool and comfortable for a hot summer night. The seating and decor are Dhaba styled, even the names of their dishes bear resemblance to a Dhaba from Northern India.

We started of the night with a round of Cocktails and an extra-large Patiala Sized Lassi. The lassi was amazing, it was perfectly sweetened and had a nice scoop of mawa. The Cocktails we tried out were Amritsar to Thailand, Thekke Da Bag, Cold Fried Caviar, Manhattan and Flaming Lamborghini Shots.

Amirtsar to Patiyala was Sugarcane Juice based Cocktail that was nice and refreshing, the Thekke Da Bag was a smooth Orange based drink and the best cocktail of the night, the Manhattan was as it should be, simple and delicious, the Col Fried Caviar was something quite interesting, watermelon flavored drink with green bubbles that resembled Caviar. However the Flaming Lamborghini Shots was the closest you can get to heaven, layers of Blue Curacao, Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream topped off with Flaming Cointreau. A treat for all your senses. Smooth with an extremely powerful kick.

Turban Tales has a concept of smaller portions at cheaper rates, which made sense to us, as we like to try out a larger variety of dishes, for starters we tried out their Tikka Supreme which was Chicken Tikka Chunks stuffed with Cheese, Amritsari Lollipop which was Crispy with an Asian Twist of Spicy Schezwan Sauce, Prawns Koliwada, a dish that can never go wrong, Jhinga Pao which is similar to a tiny vada pav filled with Prawn Koliwada, I wish they start selling these on the streets of Mumbai, Fish Tikka, tender and spiced to perfection and Chicken Quesadillas, which could have been better. We  also tried out their Lamb Galouti Kebab and Chicken Malai Tikka which were just as amazing as the rest of the dishes.

For Mains we ordered the Classic Butte Chicken with Seekh Parathas along with Rice and Mummy Di Daal. While the Starters overpowered the flavors of the simpler Main Course, it was still quite good. The Butter Chicken was my favorite of the lot.

The desserts here are just as fancy as the rest of my experience here, and it was a perfect end to an amazing evening. We tried out the Nitrogen infused Paan Ice Cream with Apple Murabba and Jalebi with Rabdi & Nitrogen. Both the dishes were quite nice but the Rabdi was my favorite.

I will surely visit this place again, it has all the makings of a successful restaurant.

Hungry Head, Powai

Even though I can’t cook much, I always love experimenting with Maggi Noodles. This place takes it to a whole new level. Hungry Head is a Dream Come True for any Maggi Lover (including me).

Located opposite Nirvana Park in Hiranadani, Powai, Hungry Head is a tiny outlet with outdoor seating. I visited a couple of nights ago and the October heat was getting to me. So to beat the heat we began with a round of Coolers, I ordered a Kiwi Ice Tea as I had never tasted that before. Sadly, my order was either mixed up with a regular Ice Tea or the Kiwi Ice Tea just didn’t have any hint of Kiwi in it. It was refreshing but a little disappointing. I also tasted their Jeera Twister and Green Apple Mojito. The Mojito was good and packed a punch, but the Jeera Twister was very mild.

eimg_5079

Next we had their Khow Suey Maggi, which is by far the best combination of Maggi Noodles and additional flavor I have ever had. Absolutely Delicious and Strongly recommended. We also had a plate of fries with various dips, some of the dips were quite average and difficult to distinguish between but the Chili Garlic Dip was to die for, it gave a good kick the moment you taste it. The fries were good too.

The Mexican roll was next, a decent dish, good flavor but nothing extraordinary. The next dish however was something I wanted to try out.. A Maggi Sizzler!! An interesting concept, to serve Maggi on a Sizzling Hot Plate, full marks for innovation, but not for the execution. The maggi on the bottom was charred, maybe another layer of lettuce would help. While I liked the Maggi and Fries, I didn’t like the sauce it was served with, too much salt in it. The Kofta Balls were my favorite part of the sizzler. Another suggestion is that you don’t serve plastic spoons and forks with a Sizzler.

Down to the final dish, and the most talked about..their Blooming Bread. We went for the Aglio e Olio topping. The dish is basically a large bun sliced and stuffed with Cheese and other toppings, it does look quite picture perfect when you pull out the pieces. Sad part is that we waited a good 20 minutes for it, speaking of which, the service was the biggest con at Hungry Head. Slow and inattentive, we had to get up several times and walk up to the counter for extra tissues and forks. However a decent experience overall.

eimg_5107

The Khow Suey Maggi was definitely the best Incarnation of Maggi I have ever come across and the dish that made my day. Worth a try!

Gurukripa, Powai

Up until now, Gurukripa was synonymous with Chole Samosa and SIES College in Sion. But this beautiful restaurant located on the crowded Saki-Vihar road, is a haven for hungry travelers. It is beautiful not only from the inside but also from the outside with its welcoming neon signs. I stopped by this place a few nights ago for a nice long dinner.

For appetizers we tried the Crispy Masala Papad with Cheese, Chicken Kalimiri ka Shorba and Peru Pyala which was their staff recommended Mocktail. The Masala Papad was bursting with savory and flavors and the overload of cheese just brings the dish to life.

For starters we had Paneer in Oyster sauce and Chicken Ghee Roast. The Paneer was tender, fresh and spiced to perfection but the Chicken Ghee Roast was my favorite dish of the day with its mild flavor, crispy coating from the caramelized Ghee and almost melt in your mouth texture of the chicken. Strongly recommended dish.

Almost full from the appetizers and starters, we decided to go light on the main course and ordered a Prawns Fried Rice. It was perfectly cooked with aromatic rice, flavorful pieces of diced prawn and garnished with spring onion.

eIMG_2261

And finally for desserts we had to try their Gadbad, of which I had read a lot of positive reviews.  It was an overload of Ice Cream, Dry Fruits and Fresh Fruits topped off with Wafer Biscuits and a Cherry. However it was a bit to sweet for my liking so we decided to douse sweetness with a scoop of mildly sweet Ice Cream.

The best part of the evening was the service which was quick and servers were always attentive and polite.

Pros : Good Food and Ambiance, Spot on Service.

Cons : The large menu can be confusing.

Apsara Ice Cream, Powai

This tiny little ice cream shop at Powai’s Galleria serves up some of the best hand made-sancha ice creams. From the regular Chocolate and fruit varieties to more unconventional flavors like pan and chikki, this place has it all.

The only difficulty you are going to have is deciding which Ice cream do you wanna have, because they are all so deliciously tempting. Luckily the staff here is quite helpful and lets you sample whatever you wish.

Apart from ice creams, they also serve sorbets and shakes. I did love their sorbets, especially the watermelon flavor but I wasn’t impressed by their shakes. The ambiance too is quite nice. A good experience each time I visit.

Pros : Amazing flavors, hand made, good service and affordable rates.

Cons : Shakes could have been better.

P.s : I have visited this place a couple of times now and from my experience I would recommend their seasonal fruit flavors. Guava and Sitaphal being my favorites.
